Rest in peace Merle Haggard! Thanks for the music.

One of my all-time favorites, and my dad’s music of choice when he was in Vietnam. Love them both. Thanks, Merle. Swingin’ doors, a jukebox and a barstool.

Its hard to imagine a situation where a little Merle doesn’t fit the bill.

Kinda startling that this song is even more relevant now than when it was penned. “Poet” is a title too often conferred on songwriters when it doesn’t really fit, but Haggard’s best songs have a poet’s ear for the perfect word or image. He was also the best kind of journalist. Rest that ramblin’ fever in your soul…

WSJ had a guest column titled On The Writin’ Side of Merle. Fine piece. A genuine bard.

Merle’s passing marks the end of an era in country music, but his music will live on.
